This summer one of the main things I’ve been focusing on is trying to show the kids how to integrate good habits into life each day.
Since my time with them is limited (blaming the older kiddos schedules here), I try to at least steal an hour where we check in on life skills. I refer to these as the 5 F’s… Faith, fitness, finance, family/friends, and favorite. I require the kids to integrate these categories into their life daily in hopes of achieving a decent harmony in their lives. A baseline if you will for them to self reflect as well as show general accountability. It also gives me an outline to support them on their journey.
They are pretty good at covering their fitness, family/friends, and favorite things but an area they were seeking to improve this summer was their faith. They’re at that age where they have a lot of questions about spiritual life and are inquisitive to learn and understand. I’ve been enjoying using our dedicated hour to study scriptures and have deep and discerning conversations together about God and our identities in faith.
Times to treasure no doubt. My personal prayer is that it opens the door for conversation and sharing for the remainder of their lives and instills a lesson in them of grounding their self in making mental, emotional, and spiritual time a priority in their experience ahead. If the topic of faith isn’t enough, I’m leaning toward diving into finances in the fall so wish me luck on that! These teenage years are next level!!
Our every day rituals definitely don’t look this picturesque normally, but I took some snaps to remind me of these treasured times this summer. I challenge you to think about what kind of moments you want to remember in this season of your life? Is it reading books, planting flowers, playing outside or picnics?! To each their own but make sure you take some pictures to look back on.
Living for the most,
Kasey
