A Little Girl’s Room… The Story of Dakota Rose

November 10, 2014

Filed in: Homemaking

When I had my first baby, Dakota Rose, I dreamed of what my girl would be like! As a first time mommy I began dreaming of what her room would be like too 😉  Throughout my pregnancy I collected items that I loved and the vision for her little girl room was born.

When we had Dakota we lived in a very small home with only one bedroom.  I wanted to decorate a nursery so bad so I did the best I could and created her own little space within ours!  All it included was a crib, bedding, and the sweetest name banner from Land of Knod.  It was the beginning of her story.

I love a room that tells a story… We shared a room for the last 4 years in that little house so I had plenty of time to collect the things that have been meaningful in her life.  We recently moved into our new home, so finally, I got the chance to put it all together!

This precious name banner from Land of Knod was the first piece that inspired me five short years ago…

Dakota loves to look at photos… so I displayed this one of the four generations of women in our family.  We both cherish it dearly.  I also put her baby albums in a basket because she enjoys looking through those.  She just had to have this alarm clock at Target… she wanted to wake up like her daddy does;).  I love little details so I displayed a mama doe & baby fawn on her window seal because her favorite movie is Bambi and she has a great love for nature- it’s a little hard to see in the lighting…  I also replaced her dresser knobs with some fancy ones from Land of Knod.

My hope and prayer.

A place to have some fun!  She is all about makeup and jewelry, playing that guitar, and being fancy. I bought this jewelry box and pretty little seat from Pottery Barn Kids.  The shag rug came from Homegoods and the butterflies were also from pbkids.  I made some butterflies myself using some old doilies I had that my grandma made.  It was a way to incorporate a piece of grammy into her sweet little space.

I can see her name in the spotlight already;)

whoever invented these book shelves – I. love. you.

She makes my heart happy.  This comfy quilt is from Pottery Barn Kids.  I bought it on clearance and purchased the twin size to save money.  Her bed is full size but no one will ever know…. I also got the canopy and owl at pbkids.  The raccoon was a gift from her pa,  again she loves forest creatures;)  One of my favorite things in her room are these wall art posters. I found them on Etsy a while ago but the girl who makes them has become popular since then and she now has products at Target… look for her stuff!  Her name is Katie Daisy. The sugar bear one is from Gingiber on etsy.  I fell in love with it because that was what my grammy called her.

Oh Kodykat!!!  Mommy loves you!
btw, I’ve never purchased anything from JCrew because I don’t live near one, but I found the kids tennis shoes on their website and ordered this shirt too.  They have the cutest stuff and I have been so impressed with the quality!  I have to say JCrew is a new fav!

This sign fits her to a T!  Anyone who knows my girl would describe her as a fun loving, spirited, silly, smart, ambitious, adventurous little tomboy who leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes…<3
House of Belonging makes these signs and so many more adorable things!

My little one is ever changing and growing and her sweet bedroom will too.  It’s nice to embrace things as they are and enjoy all the little things that are special to you!  Hope you enjoyed the room tour and thanks so much for reading!  If you have any questions or would like to share some cute ideas please leave me a comment or email me!  I’d love to hear from you:)
